Detoxify your Body

Before you continue with this page on how to detoxify your body

You know, you are one lucky person. If you don't like the way you look, you can do something about it. You can change the outside of your body in lots of ways. You can color your hair. You can change the shape of your nose and your ears. You can have tummy tucks and face lifts. You can have a chin implant and breast implants and tush implants. You can buy new clothes. You can curl or straighten your hair.

But what can you do about the inside of your body? How can you really detox your body?

You only get one body.

And you can tweak the outside of it as much as you want. But that won't help you live longer or feel better or be any healthier.

You only get one body.

And what you do to the inside of it determines to a large extent how long you will live and what your quality of life will be as you age. And, whether you like it or not, as long as you’re alive, you WILL age. The thing is, you really can get healthier as you age - despite what many people will tell you - and the best way is to detoxify your body.

You only get one body.

You need to take care of it - both outside and inside.

What do you think would happen if you poured greasy gunk down your kitchen drain day after day and never did anything to clean it out? I'll bet you already know the answer to that question!

And what about your car? What if you never changed the oil or got a tune-up? How long do you think that car would last? And can you imagine the way it would drive?

Well, you're probably getting my point. The same thing applies to the inside of your body.

Over the years, you've probably taken your share of vitamins because you wanted to get healthy and stay that way. That's good! You're eating your veggies and watching your fat and sugar intake. You get your 8 or 9 hours of sleep. You exercise and do yoga. You're careful about how much alcohol you consume and you don't smoke anything.

But is it enough?

Yep. You're doing all the right things. But do you ever have the feeling that you still might be missing something? Do you wonder if all the stuff you're doing to take care of yourself is really enough given the nasty condition of our environment?

You spend ½ hour in traffic to get to work in the morning and another ½ hour in the evening getting home.

How much exhaust did you breathe in?

You sit under fluorescent lights 8 hours a day.

What kind of toxicity did that add to your body?

And your computer?

What did your exposure to it do to your immune system?

What about all those chem trails being released in our skies?

What are they putting into your body that you would just as soon not have?

And that last airplane trip you took?

What toxins were you exposed to then?

And then, of course, there's your medical history. Can you imagine the residue left over from any antibiotics you may have taken (or eaten - remember the chapter on Healthy Eating?) in the past? They're certainly not going to help you get healthy. Or maybe you've undergone one or more courses of chemotherapy for cancer. Or maybe cancer appears frequently in your family. Or you've been administered anesthesia for surgery or dental work. Remember? You had your tonsils removed and some cavities repaired and what else?

Seems kind of overwhelming doesn't it? How do you know if you're toxic and, you ask, how on earth do I detoxify my body once and for all? Are there foods that detoxify? Can I detoxify my body naturally? And how can you detoxify your body naturally?

First of all, what is a toxin?

A toxin is any substance that results in an adverse chemical or physiological reaction within your body when it’s digested and that undermines your health or causes stress to your biochemical and organ functions and increases the need for you to detoxify your body. If toxins continue to accumulate in your body, that accumulation could cause the breakdown of your immune system and your major internal organs. And to figure out ways to detoxify your body, you need to know what toxicity looks like.

Mild cases of toxicity include:

  • Headaches
  • Eczema
  • Lethargy
  • Obesity
  • Constipation
  • Bad Breath
  • Anxiety
  • Acne outbreak
  • Digestive disorders

Chronic cases could result in:

  • High blood pressure
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Heart problems
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Nervous System Issues
  • Kidney failure
  • Cancer

Toxins don’t just affect your health - physical, emotional and mental - on a daily basis. They also shorten your lifespan with their degenerative effects.

Unfortunately, exposure to toxicity is unavoidable. But just where and how do these toxins enter your body? Here’s where:

  • Harmful chemicals in tap water
  • Toxic pollutants
  • Industrial chemicals from cars and factories
  • Chemical preservatives and artificial food coloring
  • Alcohol and smoking (you or someone else)
  • Daily consumables (remember the page on Healthy Eating?)
  • Radiation from cell phones and electrical appliances
  • Harmful chemicals in health care products and cosmetics
  • Psychological causes such as stress, worry and depression

Well, it's a lot of hassle to avoid these things in our lives - and in some cases, it may be impossible. But there are other things you can do to detoxify your body. There are ways to cause your body to release these toxins on its own. In other words, you can detoxify your body naturally.

One way is by using the master cleanse diet. This is a cleansing diet or a detox diet which has been around for over 50 years. It is a whole body cleanse. It is inexpensive. All the ingredients are easily available in your local health food store.

Here's the recipe you can use to detoxify your body.

  • 2 tablespoons FRESH SQUEEZED lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons organic grade B maple syrum
  • a small pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 12 oz of pure water
  • Shake it well and drink it

This is the original, old-fashioned recipe. You'll find all kinds of modifications to it in various places on the web. But this is the original master cleanse diet recipe. Be sure you use fresh-squeezed lemon juice. You can squeeze your day's supply in the morning. Also, be sure you are using grade B maple syrup - not grade A.

The fresh lemon juice provides a natural detox for your body. The grade B maple syrup provides some carbs for energy. It also has a lot of naturally occurring minerals which will have been distilled out of the grade A syrup. That's why you want to be sure to use grade B. And the cayenne provides some internal heat for your body.

How long should you do this?

The idea is to use this mixture as your sole source of nutritional intake for the day. You could replace your daily food intake with this mixture one day a week. Or, if you can handle it, you could try for 3 days. If you're more experienced with the process of fasting, maybe you could do it for a week. You'll probably notice some symptoms of detoxification. Maybe you'll experience a headache or feel nauseous. That's your body cleansing itself. And, ultimately, it's a good thing.

Be sure to take your own personal health issues into consideration as you are using this recipe. If you are a diabetic, you probably won't want to do this. If you have a systemic candida problem, again, you probably won't want to do this. Please be responsible and check with your doctor if you have any questions.

As you proceed with the information in this series of articles, you will see other ways to begin to detoxify your body.

And remember, dealing with toxicity is an ongoing process. As long as you live in a polluted world, you will have to deal with pollution or toxicity in your body and will have to continue to detoxify your body throughout the rest of your life.
