Poverty is rampant upon this planet. All you have to do is look around and you can see it. There is financial poverty, social poverty, spiritual poverty. Say what you will in praise of poverty, there is no way to live a truly successful and complete life without enough of what you need to do so. For your soul to unfold and your talents to develop, you must have enough money to have the things to use for their development. Personal and spiritual enrichment occur using the THINGS of the culture, the society and the planet. And you must have money to have those things. Therefore, if you really want to develop your innate talents and move forward spiritually, the very basis of your advancement must be the science of getting rich.
The object of life here on this planet is growth and development. Every living being has the right to grow and develop from the moment if its arrival until the moment of its departure.
The very fact that you are here on earth means that you must have unrestricted use of whatever is deemed necessary for the fullest physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development; in other words, you have the right to be rich in order to attain those things.
In this book, I am not going to be talking about being figuratively rich. I am not talking about being rich in spirit and poor in body. I am not talking about being content with what you now have. I am talking about being RICH. You do not need to be satisfied with what you have if you wish to have more. You should have whatever you believe you should have to enjoy a life full of beauty, grace, possessions, power and advancement on whatever levels you want to advance on. To be content with less is means you are not living the fullness of your life.
If you have all you want to live the life you want to live, you are rich. And if you do not have enough money, you cannot have all you want. Life is so complex and complicated these days that even the most ordinary person needs a relatively large amount of money to live in a way that’s even close to being complete. Every individual just naturally wants to develop to the fullest potential. You are born this way; you can’t help wanting to be all you can be. Success in life is becoming what you want to be and having what you want to have. And you can do this only by making use of THINGS. And you can make free use of things only if you have to money to buy them. And you will have the money to buy them, only if you are rich – whatever that means to you. Therefore, understanding the science of getting rich is essential to your physical, mental and spiritual growth.
The desire to get rich is the most normal, natural desire in the world. Wanting to get rich is really just an expression of the desire to have a full, abundant life – and who doesn’t want that? Anyone who DOESN’T want a richer and more abundant life might actually be considered abnormal.
We live for three reasons. We live to improve our body. We live to improve our mind. We live to improve our soul. Not one of these is better than the other. It is desirable that ALL THREE of them be improved. It is desirable that ALL THREE of them become fuller, richer, more satisfying to us. If any one of these three aspects of our life is ignored, we cannot be said to be living our life fully. We cannot ignore our body for the purpose of improving our mind our or our soul. We cannot ignore our soul for the purpose of improving our body.
When we look around us, we see the horrible consequences of living only for the body and ignoring the mind and the soul. We see that those around us who are truly living most fully are those who have engaged all three aspects of their being in their expression of life. No matter what you are taught, you can never be fully satisfied, never be fully happy unless your body is expressing its every function and the same applies to the mind and the soul. Whenever a possible function is not being expressed as well as it could be, there is unsatisfied desire. What is a desire but a possibility seeking expression or a function seeking performance?
No one can live fully in the body without the things of the body: good food, clean and comfortable clothing, a pleasant home and freedom from too much work.
No one can live fully in the mind without the things of the mind: sources of learning and growth, opportunity for travel, the ability to appreciate the creations of the mind such as objects of art and beauty.
No one can live fully in the soul without the things of the soul: love, grace, joy and peace.
And all of these are denied to the person who lives in poverty.
We find our highest expression of happiness when we are able to give to those we love. If we can’t give anything to those we love, then that expression of happiness is denied. If a parent can’t give to a child, if a lover can’t give to the beloved, if a friend can’t give to a friend, the expression of much joy is denied. So, in order to be able to live in the joyful state of giving to those we love, it is of supreme importance for each one of us to be rich.
The desire to be rich is a completely natural one. A normal person cannot help feeling that desire. And so it is right that you place much of your attention on the science of becoming rich. It is most necessary that you study how to become rich. You are ignoring your duty to yourself, to God, to your family and loved ones, indeed, to all humanity, if you do not learn how to do so. For, as a human being, you can accomplish no greater task than to make the very best of yourself that you possibly can.
