Chapter 13 - The Science of Getting Rich

If you’re going to be successful in any business, you’ll need the skills and talents required in that business. If you can’t play a note on any instrument, you’re probably not going to make a very good living as a musician. If you’re not very mechanical in nature, you probably don’t want to go into the business of repairing cars or repairing anything else for that matter. If you’re not organized and logical in your thinking, you probably won’t be very good at developing computer software.

However, there are remarkably talented professional musicians who remain poor. There are supremely brilliant software designers who cannot hold a job in their field. And there are mechanics who have a great skill at repairing any kind of machine and who still are not successful.

These skills and talents are tools. And, although it is essential to have good tools, it is also essential to use these tools in the right way. One person could take a hammer, some nails and various other tools of the trade and create a beautiful dining table while another would not be able to do it all. The second person simply does not know how to use the tools in a successful way. Your mental faculties are the tools you will use to do the work of making yourself rich. You will succeed more easily if you get into a business for which you are mentally well-equipped.

In general, you will do best in a business which uses your strongest skills and talents – a business for which you are naturally well-suited. But there can be limitations here also and you don’t HAVE to limit yourself to a vocation which uses your natural talents.

You can get rich in ANY business because you can always develop the talent and skill needed for the business. You will have to create your tools as you progress in the business rather than using the gifts you were born with. It will be EASIER for you to succeed in an area where you’ve already developed your talents and skills but you CAN succeed in any endeavor.

In terms of effort, you’ll get rich most easily if you do something you’re best fitted for. But you’ll get rich most satisfactorily if you get rich doing something you WANT to do. You are most fortunate if what you choose to do combines these characteristics.

Doing what you want to do is what life is all about. You’ll never have any real satisfaction in life if you feel compelled to be doing something you don’t really want to do and you’ll probably never do it well. There is absolutely no doubt from the point of view of the all-that-is that you CAN do what you WANT to do. The very desire to do it is proof that you have the capability of doing it within you. Desire is a manifestation of power.

If music is your field, your desire to play the music is the music itself seeking expression through you. If you want design and create software, those creations are seeking their expressions through you. If you have a strong DESIRE to do a particular thing, then do that thing. Let that thing be the ultimate goal at which you aim.

You have the right to do what you want to do. It is your right and privilege to follow whatever path will make you happiest. There is no obligation for you to do anything you do not want to do and the only reason you would do it is for it to be the leverage for you to get to do what you really want to do. Because of where you’ve been in the past, you might have to stay there a little longer. But you can stay there now with joy and happiness because you know that it is getting you to where you really want to be.

Even if you feel that you are not in the right business, don’t act too quickly in trying to get into another business. Generally, the best way to move forward is through growth. However, don’t be afraid to make a sudden and radical change if an opportunity is presented and you’ve given it careful consideration and you truly feel that it is the right opportunity for you right now. But you don’t want to take radical action if you are in doubt as to its wisdom.

On the plane of creation, there is never any hurry, there is no lack of opportunity and there is no competition for anything. Once you’re out of the competitive mindset, you’ll realize that you never need to act in haste. No one else will ever get what is truly yours. There is enough for all. If one job is taken by someone else, there will be another, better one open up for you somewhere else a little later. You never have to hurry. There is plenty of time. Just let yourself drop back into the contemplation of your vision and once again increase your faith and purpose. And, above all, when you’re in a state of doubt and indecision, remember to cultivate gratitude for what you now have.

If you find yourself in such a state, spend a couple of days contemplating your vision and expressing gratitude that you are unerringly moving toward it. When you do this, your mind will become calm and you will move without error. There is no need to act with haste or out of fear and doubt. Keep in mind your motive which is that everyone is to have more life and no one is to have less.

As you continue your life in the CERTAIN WAY, you will see that opportunities come to you in greater number and with greater speed. But to create your life in this manner, you will have to hold steady in your faith and purpose and maintain yourself in a constant state of gratitude for what is happening.

Do all that you can do in a perfect manner every day and do it without haste, worry or fear. Go as fast as you can, but never hurry. Remember that in the moment you begin to hurry you cease to be a creator and become a competitor. You drop back upon the old plane again. Whenever you find yourself hurrying, call a halt. Fix your attention on the mental image of the thing you want and begin to give thanks that you are getting it. The exercise of GRATITUDE will never fail to strengthen your faith and renew your purpose.
