The simple technique I described on the first page of this section may be all you'll ever you need for your meditation practice. Many, many people do these and nothing more and find that it satisfies their need to be connected to their internal self.

However, for others this is not enough. Perhaps they've heard about other techniques and want to know more about them or want to try them. Perhaps they're attracted to teachers from spiritual traditions where meditation is very much more a living part of the tradition than it has been in their own tradition.

To satisfy this need, there are many other techniques available. One of the reasons for this is that meditation has been a fundamental part of the spiritual deepening process for thousands of years. And it has also been an integral part of every single spiritual path on the planet.

Some of the techniques you’ve probably heard of are these:

This is not to say that this is an exhaustive list of the various types but it’s a good start. Many of the methods we hear about in the West are sub-types of the techniques already mentioned. So, if you learn about these techniques and practice them, you’ll soon be able to incorporate these or others into your daily life.
