Transcendental Meditation - My unusual experience

by Meg Colby
(Albuquerque, NM USA)

I thought I'd share this with you. Many years ago when I was a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation (TM), I had an unusual experience - unusual for me, anyway.

When I was taught the TM technique, I was told not to let my pet sit in my lap when I was meditating. I had a cat who simply would not leave me alone. Even if I shut the door to the room she would make a lot of noise trying to get into the room. It was just easier to let her in.

When I meditated, I sat cross-legged in a chair and she would sit in my lap. Generally she would sit very quietly and not disturb me during my practice time.

One day, after I had been meditating for a few minutes, I had what I would describe as a vision of a lovely white-robed female being stepping through the space in front of me. My eyes were closed so I guess I was seeing this in my mind's eye. At the moment the lovely being appeared, my cat let out a loud yowl and jumped out of my lap. My eyes flew open and my lovely vision disappeared. My cat returned to my lap the next day. But the vision never came back. Sad.
